gaffa74 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 £3m for Beattie, estimated value of yesterdays game £60m, therefore the Beattie deal cost us £57m. Dont think it Blackie that needs to go, its his Peers(the bean counters).

Not that straightforward, we'd not been playing particularly well with Beattie in the side before he left, and may not have made it to the playoffs. If we'd kept Beattie and paired him with Ward though, we may well gave challenged Birmingham harder - all ifs and buts really! McCabe's priority was to ensure there'd still be a club to support in 10 years time, rather than gambling the future on something that may not have worked.

Snook Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 i dare say having onec of the largest wage bills in the championship means ,now the parachute money has gone , savings and cutbacks have to be made Yeah, it's quite obvious really. There will be players leaving and not many coming in unless they are free transfers on lower wages. It probably won't help matters that the average attendance will go down again. There are quite a few high earners in the squad that never play, though, so maybe the first team won't have to change that much... apart from Naughton being sold.
