Male or female cat?

I only ever had females when i was growing up, and quite by chance (cos my step-brother had a litter and none of us knew how to tell the sexes lol) my first kitten when i left home ended up being male. Ironic really, cos i chose him cos he was soooo pretty, i thought he just HAD to be a girl! Anyway, I've had several over the years, of both sexes, and now have 1 male n 2 females and have to admit i tend to have preferred the nature of all the males i've had, over the females. I've always had them all neutered as soon as they were old enough and never had any spraying problems either.

i have 1 male 6 months and two rescue females 8 mnth and 1 yr the females seem to be rather tetchy and the male keeps out of it and leaves them too it the females do there own thing and the 8mnth old wanders further than i'd like i have to agree out of the 3 of them the male is a lot more loving and laid back

I have 5 cats, 2 males and 3 females. The males are more loving and don't scrap like the females.I had them neutered and have had no problems with spraying.

Yep I can say that, I had only had male cats as a child but females are just as loving as males although our 3 scrap lots and lots, they also gang up on Badger the dog.

I've got a male and a female awho are about 2 years old, they are both very affetionate and loving. The male tends to wonder a bit further from home and has got into more scrapes (being stuck up a tree/attaked by a dog/beaten up by other cats) but is more entertaining. My female is a home bird who never gets in to any trouble, its nice to have her there all the time. They have both been done at 6 months old., i think the temperament is induvidual to each cat and you can't really genralise it just on the sex, so just get whichever cat feels right for you.

If they're neutered then in my opinion it makes very little difference whether you get a boy or a girl.

What matters is the interpussynal relationships between your cats if you have more than one. Two dominant cats can spend their lives disagreeing and trying to outdo each other to be head honcho in your house, and it's more likely that toms are going to be dominant. It's also relevant if you've got lots of other cats in your neighbourhood and you plan on your cat being able to go out when s/he gets older.

Other than that, I've seen naughty toms and sweet queens, I've seen domineering queens and sweet shy toms. The odds are that they will keep their kitten pussynalities when they grow up if they've been neutered before hitting puberty and you can have a go at judging what they'll be like as adults by meeting their mummy. I've met very few kittens which haven't grown up to be like their mums in pussynality- sweet shy mums tend to have sweet and shy babies, but if mummy is a curtain climber, watch out!
