Tallest Y6 child in South Yorkshire?

Recommended Posts

DD1 was 11 last week and as such is in y6. Part of the governments plan to check on the population is to check the height and weight of all y6 kids.

DD1 had her assessment today and the nurse said she's taller than any other child in any other school she's ever been to. They cover all of S. Yorks so that quiet a feat!

DD2 is a wee bit over 5'7 and a 7 in a shoe - same size as me! I feel a bit sorry for as she towers over kids her age but this woman has made her feel even more odd. She's not bothered by it to much apparently.

My question is, was the nurse exaggerating?

If the nurse said that to your daughter, she's not being very sensitive as your daughter may now feel awkward. I was 5 ft 10 by the time I reached 12 (and stuck there) and had a few friends about the same height.

Girls do tend to grow to their full height quicker than boys - I remember the girls in my son's end of year disco in Y6 being way taller than him and he is a tall lad for his age anyway.

I wouldn't worry about it, she will probably stop or have stopped growing very soon and 5 ft 7 is not too tall.

lol my bad. dd2 is only a size 3 in baby sizes although she's getting tall as well and is on the top percentile for her age for height.

dd1 is the tallest one. The nurse did say that to her, she wouldn't have made it up. I was tall as well and I stopped at about 15 at 5'11.

All of you lot are tall, incl the OH! Try not to make her feel 'individual' my mum did that with me, telling me about big girl clothes, I now realise I was just fat, not special. And man that annoys me! She might get bullied aswell, keep an eye out for signs, especially as 'big school' is approaching, lads and the bitchy girls can be evil, i went through secondary school miserable cause of my hair and weight, until I snapped in year 10, and hospitalised a girl, which I should have spoken to someone but I was scared, so when I snapped it was pretty bad. Keep a very close eye out for her, she's such a lovely girl and I, nor people on SF who know her, dont want to see her go through it, it's horrible. But, she is a very tall girl... And so are you... And C... And S...

I have a funny feeling that she means that she is the tallest out of all the children that *she* has been to, not necessarily all of S Yorks, because I work in a Rotherham school and one of the Y6 boys is over 5'10".

I think it was a rather insensitive comment, tbh, as they don't know how your daughter feels about her height so they could've been commenting on some insecurities that your daughter already had or could've highlighted a new insecurity.
