Don't have them??

The people who don't HAVE children aren't the problem here. What are you going to do about the ones who are the problem, by having children they can't afford?

I dont think you should be allowed children if you cannot afford them! You've only got to look at jeremy kyle to see how freely these people have sex with different partners and produce unwanted children.

How do you propose that this be enforced?

No one can say we in britian arent over populated, but capping cb when mps live in such luxury never even spending there wages, capping is just plain wrong. What about the people from broken relationships that meet fall in love, they each might have two children what then. Do you think that it would be right to cap them!

I don't think cb should be means-tested for the simple reason that my husband makes a good wage (not rich by any means but a good wage) so even tho I don't get paid for my "work" as a foster carer, I can't claim any benefits in my own name, still have to pay for prescriptions and dental treatment and the only thing that I do get "in my own name" is the child benefit for my ONE son!!

So you can't just say - that family make x amount of money, the shouldn't get it - it's unfair to the women and the cb is paid to the woman for her children.

well i do rely on cb, puley becouse my babys dad dosent pay and hasent payed for him for the whole year of his life, i think if i dident get cb i could just cope but it does give me that extra few pounds to take him out ect and everybody gets it its not just limited so its not to bad its not liek you have to be sitting on ya backside all day doing nowt to get it

Aren't some of these arguments really just saying that fathers should be paying for the upkeep of their children, and doesn't a department already exist to ensure that?

It cannot possibly be unfair to women, because women don't get it. It's paid to the child; the mother (or father) is only involved as a guardian, and is (in theory, at least) required to spend it ON the child.

Child benefits should not start till the school age teen or even 12 year old reaches 18. The parents of the 'child' who's had a child should support them. This could stop children from having kids for some supplementary pocket money from the Government.

There is a proportion of the population who have kids to earn cash , you would be daft to think they didn't. If a person has 3 kids or more it equals more than Job seekers allowance. So if you are on JSA and have 4 kids you earn more money than most hard working workers out there. This is also after factoring in free housing, free council tax, free school meals, free NHS, free or subsidized transport, interest free loans and grants etc.... which a hard working person has to pay for.

Now I do know that some people see kids as a gravy boat to keep the local off license in business. This again we are talking about the likes and stereotyping that Mathews mother who kidnapped her child. There are that type of person on every estate or street up and down the country, going from Tuesday to Tuesday on beer money that was intended for kids.

Now wouldn't it be a fantastic idea if cash was taken out of the matter and replaced with food vouchers ?

You could exchange the voucher at such as boots for your nappies and other baby supplies. Then as the child gets older the vouchers get changed to places like Tesco but on the strict understanding they are not used for booze or other non child related products.
