nerd
I just wondered does anybody know whether the council actually record and store images from their CCTV live traffic cams that can be viewed on the website? last week I was the passenger in a car that was involved in an accident which was in an area filmed/covered by one of the CCTV cameras. The accident was the fault of the other driver but the information they provided at the scene has turned out to be false, and I just wondered whether there would be any chance of the council having the images stored? Not really sure what else we can do...never had this happen before. Thanks.
chem1st
I would try ringing the police and informing them, they can get straight through to the people on the cameras. I'd imagine they only store footage for a short time period (a week to a month maybe).
nickycheese
I wouldn't be to hopeful: http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/roads-and-transport/travel-information/traffic-cameras "The resolution and size of the images on this site are deliberately chosen so as to prevent identification of individuals or vehicles. To maintain this anonymity, images from cameras may be unavailable from time to time. The camera images are not routinely recorded at present, and it is the policy of the council not to make other CCTV images or recordings available to the public - for futher details contact Traffic Control." nikita
I think they keep them for quite a long time, they use the in murder cases months after,as in the Millie Dowling case, didnt they use cctv to track down a car seen on camera in the area she disapeared. bradley1983
The hard drive the Council have to store images is massive, and I believe it's a month at least. And believe me, on the raw feed of the cameras in the CCTV control room, you can see everything in the smallest details, so a registration plate will be no problem. The quote above is taken from the Council website where they make a small number of the cameras available for traffic purposes.
Tripitaka
Surely you got the registration number?
nerd
Surely you got the registration number? Yes, but they turned out not to be insured it would seem, and s the address provided was wrong we are having difficulty tracking the person. we have got our insurers legal team onto it though, so fingers crossed...
