I was just wondering. There are a few Southerners in this office and they thought we were making it up. Apparently it's local to South Yorks, NE Lincs according to some website or other I've just looked at, in case you cared.

 

actually, it's from the norse words for heavy rain. so it's not just local to S Yorks and NE Lincs.

I once stayed with a french family and they used the phrase "il pleut comme la vache qui pisse", so maybe it means something similar :)

 

From what i remember when I studied french at school doesnt that roughly translate to its raining like a cow p****s

 

Not that ive watched many cows but i should imagine it means its raining heavy.

My Mum used to say 'He/She is bragging and braunging again'. By this she meant that the person was boasting of what they were going to do/had done/what they owned etc.
