Arshavin. How Close Was He?

Recommended Posts

What is the record for the amount of goals one player has scored in a Premiership game? Amazing Arshavin was very close to getting 5 last night.

I think Andy Cole got five when Man Utd beat Ipswich 9-0.

I think Solskjaer got a load against Forrest (from the bench) when United batered them at the City Ground, and Vialli got at least four against Barnsley if my memory serves....?

Most goals in a game: 5, joint record:

Andrew Cole (for Manchester United v. Ipswich Town, 4 March 1995)

Alan Shearer (for Newcastle United v. Sheffield Wednesday, 19 September 1999)

The commentator said that was the first time a visiting player had scored four goals in a league game at Anfield since 1946.

He scored the last four of an 8-0 win, as I recall. Almost certainly a record for most goals scored in a game by a substitute.

But Baptista got 4 when Arsenal beat them 6-3 at Anfield in a Carling Cup semi a couple of years ago.
