Apparently I always used to be singing, "Lavender's blue dilly dilly, ? is green etc" when I was very young. What was the title of this song and who sang it (apart from me)?

Kids novelty songs that I can remember were;

I taught I saw a puddy tat a cweeping up on me.

Nellie the elephant.

Sparky and his magic piano.

Rudolph the red nose reindeer.

A singer who used to make me laugh was Jerry Colonna, with songs such as Ebb Tide and Velvet Glove. It didn't take much to keep me happy in those days:D.

Burl Ives - Lavender's blue (dilly dilly)

Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,

Lavender's green

When you are King, dilly dilly,

I shall be Queen

Who told you so, dilly dilly,

Who told you so?

'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,

That told me so

Call up your friends, dilly, dilly

Set them to work

Some to the plough, dilly dilly,

Some to the fork

Some to the hay, dilly dilly,

Some to thresh corn

Whilst you and I, dilly dilly,

Keep ourselves warm

Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,

Lavender's green

When you are King, dilly dilly,

I shall be Queen

Who told you so, dilly dilly,

Who told you so?

'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,

That told me so.

This is a favourite old song and in fact it's about as old as me - 'Red Ingle and the Unnatural Seven - Serutan Yob (Natures Boy)'. It's utterly stupid, btw.

The same crew sang 'Cigareets,Whusky, and Wild, Wild, Women', which was a favourite of my grandfather.
