eyup richardpx5 i went past the shops and whats left of the houses behind the other day, its looking like a scene from beirut. such a shame as i know a few off the estate who were more than settled & willing to live the rest of there lives on there. what bugs me is the council were supposed to have started re-building the new houses within a couple of year of the 1st ones being demolished according to helen jackson mp.

god its wiered seen so many posts of people of parson cross,, its time to meet up to discuss so many good stories of parson cross,,ideal meeting places would be the cross pub,,tavern or the beagle,, great times of parson cross,,THE BEST ESTATE IN SHEFFIELD

helen jackson is full of s**t,, my parents lived on mansel for 39 years in the malthouses, they did not want to leave but basiclly forced out, my brother was there when demex was gutting out house for demolition and he spoke to a fella who said that its going to take upto 5 years for the developers to start building as the land needs to settle, but if they build too early they could subside in a few years so looks like mansel is going to look like beirut for a few more years yet

Having moved into a new house on Wordsworth Ave in1947 and later moving to Rokeby Drive.I am dismayed to read the comments about Parson Cross.

Looking at the street scenes on Google Earth of Rokeby Drive it looks to be very orderly clean and prosperous.

I don't know if you listened to the '66 World Cup Final on the good old World Service, but the producer at the time (Paddy Feeney) made the decision not to broadcast the extra time but to revert to the schedule. A career stopper if ever there was one.

i dont think you would hardly recognise the cross now,, even when i go up there is always something different going on,,even the huntsman pub at end of deerlands are

appartments now totally flattend

How yah doin' these days Al. Long time no see!! Yew Lane's nowt like it used to be these days; too many problem families for a start. It's a shame because it used to be a decent area. I'm told there used to be a ten year waiting list, but that's only hearsay.

when mum and dad had to move off mansel we looked on net at available homes around the area,,on a general waiting list deerlands mount was 15 years and i think yew lane 10 years but as mum was on priority they managed to get a house in ecclesfield-just next to village and the road they are on has a 20 years general waiting list but as where they lived on mansel there was gangs with knives and bats congreating next to house so constantly moaned to the council for them to be moved,,to be honest i used to hate coming home leaving them on their own,,parson cross is a bloody s**t tip now with gangs and drugs,,its them people what ruined the estate as police are powerless these days to do anything,,we phoned police on so many occasions but they came out next day,,its bloody stupid
