Anyone come from Grimesthorpe? (Part 2)

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have always been intrested in this place i lived all my life, Grimesthorpe.

I think i know quite a bit about our area, and keep learning more information from you people on this thread. I wonder if any one knows of a Local History Group of this area.

Hi. Someone has posted on another thread re a silver trowel used to lay the foundation stone of Grimesthorpe Primitive Methodist Church. Does anyone know if that was the Methodist Church on the hill?

The chapel on Grimesthorpe road was known as the Grimesthorpe Primitive Methodist Chapel.

Interestingly, there was a chapel on Owler Lane called the Primitive Methodist Chapel. If my memory serves me correctly I think it was used for woodwork or something similar by Owler Lane Secondary School pupils.

Thank you Walt. I went to the Grimesthorpe Road one for many years, but never knew that.

Here's a blast from the past.

On the back of it it says Parachute Jump and on showing it

to our Terry he said these lads did do a parachute jump

I think this would have been in the early 80's

front row we have Sam Ellis and Bob Sidebottom
