shooter   10 #3397 Posted April 25, 2011 Thanks for this wonderful photograph! What a trip down memory lane that was (or should I say Owler Lane)! Is that Stanley Francis (what a great teacher)? I'm catching up with the thread now to see if I can add a few things to the memory pool. Looking at Dorothy on the first row and Doris behind, a couple of hilarious moments spring to mind - the "jubbly" incident and the "hiccups" incident.  best wishes  O Olga, the jubbly incident reminds me that we used to buy frozen Jubblies from the shop just up from the youth club at Grimey Church or if they had none in the freezer Oldfields dairy round the corner sometimes had some. Happy days!
 Share this content via...

cat631 Â Â 10 #3399 Posted April 25, 2011 Thursday 21st. April. Walt and I went for another stroll in Derbyshire. This time, nothing exciting happened, just a steady walk in glorious sunshine along the banks of the River Lathkill. Starting at Over Haddon, we walked a circular route through Lathkill Dale and returned via The Limestone Way. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/RiverLathkill.jpg ............................................................................................. We stopped to explore the ruins of an old leadmine. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/RuinsofLeadmine.jpg ................................................................................................. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/Leadmine.jpg ............................................................................................ Water was usually a problem in Derbyshires many lead mines and this shaft housed a pumping engine for mine drainage. The crystal clear water can just be seen about thirty feet down. A hand cranked dynamo is fastened to the wall and provides lighting to look down the shaft. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/LeadmineShaft.jpg ............................................................................................................. A few pics. along the river. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/LathkillDale1.jpg ................................................................................................... http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/Mickatwaterfall.jpg ................................................................................................. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/LathkillDale2.jpg .......................................................................................... http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/LathkillDale3.jpg .......................................................................................... A few steep climbs. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/LathkillDale4.jpg .............................................................................................. A bit too steep for me, we got to the top eventually. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/LathkillDale6.jpg .......................................................................................... Resting at the top of these steps, Mick and I were followed up by a bloke who didn't seem unduly out of breath, then, a few minutes later by his young son, about ten years old, who'd run up. "How many?" asked Dad. "Only a hundred and eighty two". Only!!!!!! Looking back to upper Lathkill Dale. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/LathkillDale7.jpg ........................................................................................ On The Limestone Way heading for the pub. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/Ralph.jpg ................................................................................. Journey's end at The Lathkill Hotel. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/Pub.jpg ............................................................................. And the view from the pub. http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w17/rh200/Viewfrompub.jpg ...........................................................................................
