That sounded outrageous, so I investigated - turns out these are his expenses since 1990 ...

 

Today’s apology came as Harry Cohen, the Labour left-winger, who was said to have claimed more than £300,000 in second-home allowances on his house in the capital, insisted that he had done nothing wrong as it was “part of my salary”.

 

He said that the former Conservative minister John Moore had told MPs to “go out, boys, and spend it” when he introduced a big change in the allowance in the 1980s to head off a pay revolt by backbench Tories.

 

The Mail on Sunday reported that Mr Cohen listed a single-bedroom schoolhouse in Colchester, Essex, and a caravan on nearby Mersea Island as his main home.

 

It meant that over the past five years he had been able to claim the maximum allowance of £104,701 on his constituency home 70 miles away in Leyton and Wanstead, East London, the paper said. It calculated that since 1990, he had received a total of £310,714 in allowances.

 

Mr Cohen added that the arrangement had been cleared with the House of Commons authorities.

 

Last week the Committee on Standards in Public Life announced it would be carrying out a review of the whole system.

She employs her husband to run her constituency office on £40k a year and it wouldn't surprise me if we the taxpayers are funding him to look after her expense claims and put them in for her after she has signed them off.

 

I mean, if she was doing it herself, she wouldn't have missed the porno films and probably wouldn't have even let it go into the system out of sheer embarrassment, so we could well be paying her husband a decent wage to take what they can get out of the system.

 

It doesn't look good, £10 or not and what looks even worse is that the system paid for it without question.

I really dont give a **** who watched the films. I give a **** that yet again Jackboot, like her troughing ilk, has been inappropriatey claiming something from us (her £67 broadband and tv package in her family home) for a long time, and when discovered, tells us it was a mistake. The films are a convenient aside. The claim and the length of it is the issue.

This report about Harry Cohen is actually worse than what Smith has done. She and her idiot husband made a mistake that the fees committee in the House of Commons chose to let them get away with. Cohen shows a contemptible attitude towards the electorate, his constituants and every person in Britain who has to vouchsafe for every single penny claimed as expenses, providing receipts and filling in expense claims.

 

His claim that his expenses are "part of my salary" shows how out of touch and morally bankrupt he is.
