13-17 night at the Leadmill

Recommended Posts

Let him go, but give him some earplugs as the music volume in these places are generlly way too high! It is still possible to hear the music, but the ringing in the ears afterwards isn't as bad... The ringing eventually causes deafness.

Whilst i agree with part of your comment i can certainly say that the Leadmill is sound monitored as part of the normal club nights so i woudl assume that when the event was held there the same would occur

I believe the same applies to the o2 Academy as well

HELLO-its 2009-anything goes! Are you naive or what-if kids of this age are capable of torturing other young kids i'm damn sure they'll try anything else for kicks. Unfortunatley we now live in a world full of selfish self centred kids and i'm afraid if they want something bad enough-they will get it!!!

Children need to be socialised and the Licensing Act 2003 recognises this. It allows under 18s to experience the atmosphere of licensed premises in, what should be a safe environment. The Act requires that all licensed premises and clubs set out clearly the steps they will take to protect children on their premises. If anyone knows of any incident where a child would be at risk, it should be reported to the establishment, the police and to the licensing board!

I do not have children, but I do believe in the need for children to be socialised (in a safe environment), it is 2009 after all, the pace of life is getting quicker and quicker!

didnt the corporation night club run a similar type of event that the council/police closed down for some reason? did anyone find out what, if anything happened to warrant its closure? im presuming something "bad" happened at the event for the council/police to close it down, and if nothing happened why did they want it closed? and why dont they want the leadmill one stopped?

Originally it was on 6-8, then it went from 6-7 because people used to get really drunk beforehand, and the thought was if they started it earlier they would have less time to drink. Which, they didn't. I saw many a kid rolling around down the hills of Devonshire Green before this on a saturday which was probably why it had to close.

hardly the fault of the night club if kids drink on dev. green, i saw drinking on there years before the event started, and im sure there are kids still drinking on there now the event is no more, seems the council/police put 2 and 2 together and got 5 (again!)

Have faith in the kids they are not all out to take drugs and have underaged sex. My daughter used to go to WOW (crisp and pop nights) and they were all searched before they went in even packets of gum was taken from them until they left in case they contained drugs

I really don't see why people are complaiing so much, its not as if an under 28's night its a new concept...my mum wen to these back in her day, and she turned out fine! I'd rather let my (hypothetical) kids go out to one of these events, at least they'd be supervised. Better that than be out hanging around park benches and the like. And as for people saying 16/17 years olds shouldn't be there, well chances are they probably won't bother. Its a t that age they actually want to try and get served on pubs etc.

And as for corp that was down to the kids themselves, they thought it was a good idea to get drunk beforehand, and you have to ask where they got the alcohol in the first place so you can't really blame the club. Kiddie corp had been running for years before that happened.

i totally agree with you messedup that is why i let my 13 year old daughter go, i did discos and club as a teen so why shouldn't our kids have the same fun and as people have said these places have to be run properly these days.

i was nervous as hell that night we kept in touch threw the nite without it taking over her night out she had a fantastic time and said she never saw any trouble whats so ever and would love to go again, and im happy to let her go,

i have worked for the youth service and know the rules on how a venue should be run if it means these kids are under a certain age, there well being is the most important thing and im sure they are doing it right or they wouldn't be still having these nights.

just think at least they arnt hanging around parks shops and making a nuisance of themselves, come on most areas of Sheffield haven't got youth clubs no more so what else can they do.

Noise limits / monitoring in clubs are there for two reasons :-

1) Protect the licence - some venues have clauses which state that only a certain level of music is allowed in order to minimise disruption to local residents.

2) Protect the staff - The Noise at Work regulations apply as much to nightclubs as they do factories. Venue owners and operaters are legally required to protect the hearing of their staff, and could be liable for proscecution if they don't take measures to control exposure and monitor the situation.

Protecting the hearing of customers is not one of the reasons levels are monitored, mainly as it's impossible to make it safe to stand in front of speakers while keeping a sensible volume at the back of the room. I would never send a kid to a nightclub without hearing protection, as any damage done at a young age will cause problems later in life.

As a customer, you are welcome to completely ruin your hearing by standing in front of the speakers, while complaining it's not loud enough. Venues currently have no legal responsibility to protecting you from your own behaviour.
