Sid Umpley   10 #3 Posted March 19, 2009 call the council and ask to see the "definitive map"  you looking for B.O.A.T's Byways open to All Traffic  its the new term for what used to be called green lanes  any B.O.A.T can legally be driven on.  all vehicles need to be taxed tested and insured though as a B.O.A.T is legally a road. There are plenty of tracks round there I use myself, I think only a handful of them are strictly 'private' in the correct sense of the word.... petopan   10 #9 Posted March 21, 2009 Sometimes it is possible to see the retailers of 4x4 vehicles offer off road days on designated farm land above Redmires (Yorkshire Moor). The last group up there was sponsored by Bentley s the Suburu dealer.  I would recommend joining the local 4x4 club, who will organise event days, and also be able to offer appropriate legal advise and conversational training for treading light with your 4x4.  Be well  Pete
 Share this content via...

mike142sl   10 #11 Posted March 21, 2009 It's private land, there is a house at the end of the track and a quarry. Might be worth poping in to see how it can be 'rented out' but suspect you would need a group to make it worthwhile.
 Share this content via...
petopan   10 #12 Posted March 21, 2009 There is nothing to stop you going green laning. Despite the encroaching legislative attempts to discriminate against 4x4's, it is still legal to go off road.  I would therefore recommend you consult with some of the local clubs as to the best local routes.  Try these links as a way of enlightening your desires with your 4x4.  http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=16343  http://www.glass-uk.org/  http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/  Finally, I am not sure what sort of 4x4 you are driving, but you cannot beat getting some information from the king of 4x4's at http://www.pandd.org.uk/  Be well and drive well.  Pete
 Share this content via...
