I used to work at Roberts Brothers, my brother ran the restaurant (and later so did my Mum) and I helped out behind the bar at lunchtimes and on a night for weddings and other do's. I also remember selling strawberries outside on the Moor and one of the department managers passing by and saying very loudly, "What is this shop coming to!"

Does anyone remember the "Rare and Racy" record shop - I got most of my prog rock records second hand from there.

Barney Goodmans still have a shop on Ecclesall Road.

I don't believe the owners were related to 'Barney' and were probably too young to have worked for him at anytime, so I wonder how they acquired the name?

Remember it? Last time I looked it was still there, with the same guy behind the counter.

God what memories reading this has brought back. I worked at the TSB in 71. I remember most of these shops and I actually went to the Slade concert

Hi lagerlil

Rara and Racy was at 166 Devonshire Str. I had to look on the inner sleeve of 'A Song For Me' by Family (£1.20) to get it right. Still got all the original crackles!

Is that the shop that also sells old books and maps and things?
