Antics^^   10 #61 Posted March 9, 2009 Why not allow a people to open up smoking pubs? I would love to open up a pub/restaurant/cafe.  To provide people a place to smoke, eat and drink, with live entertainment and dedicated rooms. A games room (card/boardgames etc.), lounge, dining area and an area for music/screening sport.  It's got to the point where we might aswell allow monopoly venues which we'll probably end up with in a few years, providing the same thing twice for smoking/non smoking, or maybe quadruple if they introduced alcohol/alcohol free areas.  An example would be the bankers draft pub in town. The pub could easily be split into two venues whilst remaining essentially as one (Airtight venues wrt each other). Non smoking downstairs, smoking upstairs. (Block of the inside stairs) Instead of the upstairs/downstairs choice, one could pick based upon smoking policy. One is free to enter and leave the other section, although one needs not enter the smoking/nonsmoking section.  Great idea, if smoker's actually stayed in the designated smoking areas. From personal experience they do not, hence the full blanket ban.
 Share this content via...
chem1st   10 #62 Posted March 9, 2009 S pub NS pub  Bang next to each other, or on top of each other.  S's barred from NS pub and fined. S's allowed to S in S pub.  Everyone happy.  More socialising, more jobs.
 Share this content via...

chem1st   10 #64 Posted March 9, 2009 Why not simply ban smoking from all the indoor areas and allow smoking outside where the smoke won't affect anyone's health. That sounds like a sensible suggestion to me.  Why not allow smokers to operate areas for themselves, where they can smoke without fear of persecution. (Provided they do not discriminate against non smokes - i.e. allow them in)  Smoke outside affects people's health, the air outside affects peoples health. Systems can be put inside buildings to extract smoke and other potentially harmful gases whilst pumping in 'clean' air at the same time. I hadn't thought of that. Best to ban smoking all together.
 Share this content via...
Cyclone   10 #66 Posted March 10, 2009 All the ideas about smoking/non smoking venues would have worked. If the industry had gone ahead and created a reasonable number of both without prompting. It did nothing though, apart from a few chains and isolated venues, so the government had to take action.  The only problem with a smoking pub is that it's illegal to discriminate against who you hire, and health and safety would require that they be protected from the smoke as well. The whole senario is frankly ridiculous. I presume a "smoking" bar would require that bar staff lose their jobs should they be audacious enough to quit smoking.
