Anyone from Crookes?

Hi

 

I'm a Journalism student at Sheffield Uni and for my coursework I am researching and reporting stories in the Crookes area.

 

Was just wondering if anybody knew of any notable stories? (such as shops/pubs closing down, crimes, fights, student related...or any other information that may be useful?)

 

I am talking to people face to face in the area as well, this is just a starting point.

Hi, I own Churchilss dry cleaners, on the main road. We will shortly be moving further down the hill, into the empty building next to the old Merlin estates building. After a re-furb that is. Dont know if thats of interest ?

Dickens the butchers has now closed down, although I think it was called Butlers lately. Been there for years.

Is this correct?It always seemed to be doing well with people queuing out

on the street at weekends.I used to pop in now and again for one of their

hot roast pork sandwiches.

what about the snow in 2007/8 over christmas - some students built a giant erect penis made out of snow in the car park near co-op and the police made them knock it down due to public indecency. I have the pics to prove it (btw i wasn't one of the students who built it, i was watching instead)

I know it was not due entirely to business not doing well, but surely if it was a viable business, it could have been sold as a going concern.
