i went to whitby rd, but we got shipped to maltby st school, i was laughing with someone the other day about phones, in our yard at ronald rd, if the neighbour was on the phone we couldnt use ours, party lines, how primitive were the gpo back then?

hi kev,,would have been 1969-75 ish/ im 47 now i think i remember a teacher called mrs altas, mr brindley, and mr ellis, unless im getting confused with beaver hill , mr ellis was a french teacher, mrs altas was head or deputy head and i think mr brindly was an english teacher or geography teacher,

the times ive been in the libs club, when we came out about 11 o clock i can still remember mick morran selling sweets on the counter members signed in./the concert room being packed with acts like .. jade.. cfs.. ron delta.. ted bayer.. johnny kallendar../and heres a memory no one will remember..... a guy called mick who had a novelty pipe made out of a sort of silver metal, with a sort of wheel on it, gordon burns what a lovley person, died so young.. johhny palmer, the snooker players,, eric peacock senior and junior,, mark cutforth, steve bell with the honda 400, god these were good times,..........what about erenest pickering the pigeon man on the telly?

i remember a lad called john taylor who danced at wigan casino , and mark kavalok, the simcox brothers, chris and mike, pamela cruise who was at the darnall horti around that time and cezel barlow who lived on gainsford rd, i went to school with barry wilson and craig saywell, i also remember a lovely lass called angela drake who was a lovely girl very nice looking who died very young , her mum was a bus conductress,

Wow! memories or what? I lived near Saynors Chippie on Shirland Lane. Often climbed over the fence into the "Spirits" to get a ball back (Darnall Spiritualist Church). I remember going down the "darkie" and almost filling my pants with the stories of the rats there. Building a dam in the gully in front of the Halfway House - Walking up Piggie Lane to get to the park. The hours spent playing on the China Field behind the petrol station on Staniforth Road. How many went over Kettlebridge to creep into the train yard and the run like the wind cos the railwmen chased you! And in Darnall it seemed like Lakins owned every shop !
