Heard this on Heart Radio this a.m. and just had to find it:

Should be a commemorative to Barry Chuckle.

Strictly Victor and Max,

"I wanna tell you a story": my parents were more into Edmundo than Victor.

|Horribleblob,

Thank you for that brought back fond memories.

My mother used to fox-trot to the music of Billy Cotton. My sister and I would listen to Billy Cotton's Band Show on a Sunday afternoon. The band featured Alan Breeze as lead singer. Here they are for your entertainment.

My mother would sing and bang this tune out on an old "Upright" piano-all the covers off and the loud pedal held down by two house bricks.

My sister and I would put on my mum's shoes and dance-falling over-round the living room. We imagined we were at the Ritz Ballroom Manchester.

We lived in a two up,two down terrace-and the piano eventually fell through the floorboards and we laughed and laughed.

Of course, we couldn't see this on the wireless:

This Cornet playing of world-class virtuosity. The triple tonguing is to die for.

Note: The Cornet is an advance on the old post horn. It's Bb and the bore is not the same diameter throughout. It gives it that mellow brightness when played.

Now here's a contrast. The trumpet is played with such clarity and brightness. The tone is impeccable.

Here is a man who clearly has the angel Gabriel resident in his Cornet:

This Cornet playing of world-class virtuosity...

A different style of cornet playing here. I’ve never got into Trad Jazz but somehow like these tracks by Tuba Skinny – probably because they’re renditions of a couple of personal blues favourites:

Bessie Smith’s ‘You've Got to Give Me Some’ [check out the lyrics!]

Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy’s ‘I'm Going Back Home’

I think the latter video, in particular, disproves any notion that the so-called “devils music” is anything other than a force for good.

nice singles...

The social media we had at that time.

Then you'll know, or appreciate,
