DT Ralge   10 #61 Posted December 6, 2008 That is a point though....some cars are different and a rough guide may not always apply. Just as there is a massive difference between my 5 year old 999cc 16 valve and my 20 year old 1289cc 8 valve carburettor engine on a cold morning on half-choke!  The 3rd-for-30mph rule can be a decent average, however people are going to challenge it because we are all being told in "green guides" to change up as early as possible  Late in responding, I know, but the "change to another gear early" message is meant for those who change, say, from 2nd to 3rd at 3000+ revs where in many vehicles a change at 2000 revs in the modern diesel is perfectly possible - i.e. use the torque of the engine to reduce engine noise/wear and unnecessary fuel consumption. There will always be exceptions but I sit in and drive enough vehicles day-in-day-out to know that this advice holds true for the bulk of them. DT Ralge   10 #62 Posted December 6, 2008 There in lies the issue I have with those that insist you should be able to see the cameras from a distance - I think they should be painted in the same drab/dark colours a lot of pedestrians wear....  Excellent coment, I shall use that, if you don't mind! DT Ralge   10 #64 Posted December 6, 2008 why don't they go where the idiots speed around and really endanger people.  If you and others expressed enough concern about a problem in any one area they would, they tell me.
 Share this content via...
