Helen McLaren   0 #37 Posted December 21, 2022 I still have the model village in a box with a sliding wooden lid bought for me by my parents at Christmas1960 when I was 2 and 3/4. I remember going into the shop and Mum also bought a beautiful german angel figure with a wax face which comes out every Christmas - very carefully! I still play with the village with my grandchildren and it's loved by eveyone who sees it! It was a wonderful shop! This was long before Redgates....in the days when we used to walk up to the town hall past Davies' with wonderful marzipan fruits in the window - I always chose a strawberry. Sometimes we'd go to Cockaynes where I'd have an ice cream teddy bear in a dish. We also went to the Queen's Greek restaurant underneath the Classic Cinema for wonderful meals - the waiters were formal but friendly in the immaculate dinner jackets! Sheffield was lovely in those days!
 Share this content via...
