Treatment   10 #1 Posted October 18, 2008 I am getting jolly annoyed by these words that seem to be used by many people in mid sentence.  They seem to have replaced the equally annoying old ones, which also did my head in, e.g. '' err '', or '' yer know'' or the David Hamilton habitual '' as you can imagine '', occasionally interspersed with '' as you can well imagine ''.  Is it just me, or do others get cheesed off by these stupid mind numbing little excuses for normal speech ?   Yes, I am in a bad mood, at the end of the day, as you can imagine.  Can an Engish Lit. expert kindly extemporise on this ?  Glad that I got that off my chest, at the end of the day, as you can imagine, I hope that Swami, the top man, will sooth me. GuitarChick   10 #5 Posted October 18, 2008 As soon as I see that phrase in a post, I stop reading -- except for this one as it was the title and thus looked like a ranty-type post about it.  Ditto if someone says it in person to me -- I stop listening.  It annoys me immensely. I used to work with someone who used the phrase *multiple* times in the same conversation. I often used to wonder if the person on the other end of the phone found it as annoying as I did.
