Always Glad to have been of service Padders 🧐

Keep safe.

Hope your next S**** a  🦔

This is just for you Rocker....

1964..

I was courting my wife, and was in love with my brand new second hand car(Vauxhall Victor)

So I took her to see Freddie Star at the Fiesta.

When arriving at the Fiesta, I drove down a ramp into the car park, a dingy, underground poorly lit car park..

Had a few drinks (before breath tests were introduced) and enjoyed the show..

When we left, The girlfriend (wife to be) didn't fancy walking to the car park, cus it was a bit spooky, so I said "you wait at the entrance on Arundel Gate and I'll fetch the car"

When I drove out of the car park to pick her up, she was stood there talking to a Bobbie.

Apparently as she waited for me a Ford car pulled up beside her, and the driver exposed himself, she screamed and a passing policeman came to her aid........

When I arrived on the scene, she was giving details to the policeman, who was jotting them down in his notebook(pencil and paper back then)

When he'd finished he said......

" right to sum up, a passing Ford car pulled up, and the driver exposed himself, now I have to ask you one last question...Did he have an erection?"

No, she replied, it was definitely an Escort..

Still makes me smile....

I'll talk cars all day Padders (makes me smile & keeps us back on subject :hihi:)

Mk111 Zephyrs were my thing but have had a few 'brand New - Second Hand' Victors including FB  (VX490) & 101.

Sheffield must have had more 101 estates (falling to bits) per population than anywhere in the country.

I like the idea of naming your children after where they were conceived.

'Back Seat Of A Zodiac' has a certain ring to it.

But doubtful registrar would think the same :hihi:

I'd forgotten about that car park & 'dingy' is a very apt word.

As for drink driving there wouldn't be a pub carpark that wasn't full at end of an evening back then :suspect:

Keep safe.

But remember - Nostalgia ain't what it used to be

You have to smile Rocker,

I used to have the old Sit Up and Beg Ford..

What a car that was, cold frosty mornings, one turn of the starting handle and of we went.

I could do owt wi that car, head gaskets, de-coke no problem... replace starter motor, dynamo, easy peasy, all picked up from Coopers scrapyard for a song..

Not gorra a clue now,

Electric windows? still not mastered them yet...I press a button and the rear window goes down, press another button and another window goes down, updown, updown, I've got dancing windows, give me a handle any day..

And I don't need it to tell me when to change gear..

Reverse warning light, no thanks, a glance over my shoulder does the trick, don't trust it.

Gets dark, headlights come on ,

Raining, windscreen wipers come on, thank god I can override them, I don't need a ruddy computer telling me what to do.

Cruise control, what's that all about, never used it..(had the car 6yrs)

Don't ask me to change the clock, think it's now 4-30am.

The cars currently in dock, gear linkage broke on way to ASDA, stuck in 2nd gear..

It didn't warn me that was about to happen, useless...

Stay safe,

Happy motoring.

Thank you Padders for making my morning.

I'm smiling from ear to ear:thumbsup:

I was at Coopers a while back and mentioned the last time i'd been the place was full of Mk 4 Zephyrs & Reliant Regals.

Exactly my thoughts on those reversing camera things. What's all that about?

Green line Redline beep, beep, beep, beep (love the advert where the woman is playing the key board while her husband reverses through the garage door:hihi:) combination of looking over your shoulder & mirrors always worked for me. (try reversing wagon wi' car trailer up a cul-de-sac, the sense of achievement always brings a smile:hihi:) (see what I did there:hihi:)

Worked for KIA at one time, that self parking (park assist) thing is impressive, daunting at first but impressive.

With you on the silly telling you when to change gear, wipers that come on when it looks like rain, (which is better than the early Mini's that refused to start if it looked like rain) cruise control & positively hate the speedo projected on to the windscreen on some modern cars.

I did like the gear position light on the big Suzuki's 🏍️ (saved cogging down one to many:nono:)

I read about you only having the 2nd gear.

My Bedford CA , Mk 2 Consul's & Mk2 Zodiac's only had one more.

Keep threatening to put my 1964 Regal back on't road you wouldn't believe the smiles & thumbs up that gets :D:thumbsup:

I've a photo above my lap top it has my Senator, my Jag (proper one) & my Regal sat outside 'house.

All three brought a smile & I could never decide which one to jump into - it's a hard life us 'petrol heads' have :D

Keep safe

Keep smiling                                              🎵 ✝️
