xafier   10 #1 Posted March 20, 2005 I've been trying to think what the most beautiful songs are, songs that are really sweet and romantic and kinda want to make you cry... they dont HAVE to be romantic, but just songs that are really beautiful  so far I'm thinking these are definitly on the list  Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight (especially the slower version on the album Reptile) R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts (this song can bring me close to crying at times!)  can't think of anymore at the moment, but what songs do you think are beautiful and/or nearly make you cry? StarSparkle   10 #6 Posted March 20, 2005 Beautiful songs to me are those that have a big emotional effect on me.  Quite a lot of Only Ones' songs can make me feel very emotional/teary depending on my mood. The same with Marion songs. And sometimes Suede. I've never cried easily, so for these songs to have that effect is very unusual for me.  I'm really not sure if I like it or not, but it can be very cathartic.  One or two other songs I regard as beautiful:  Eric Clapton "Tears in Heaven" Waterboys "The Whole of the Moon" The Clash "Stay Free" Oasis "Don't Look Back in Anger" The Verve "The Drugs don't Work" Frankie goes to Hollywood "The Power of Love"  Umm, maybe I'm more emotional than I think .....  StarSparkle
 Share this content via...

angel_b   10 #10 Posted March 20, 2005 It's really hard to answer this question, because my tastes and emotional states are constantly changing, but I'll attempt it anyway! These are not necessarily beautiful in the typical sense of the word, but are included here because they have moved me for some reason or other and therefore are beautiful.  Annie Lennox - "Love Song For A Vampire" This is a very haunting song sung by a very talented lady, and always brings a tear because it was around at the time my gran died and never fails to remind me of her.  Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Dosed" If my husband and I were inclined to have danced at our wedding (we don't do dancing!) this would have been our first dance. It's beauty to me is in the lyrics. Some are a little bizarre, but I especially love this part, which just seems to encompass everything that I feel about my husband:  "In you a star is born and, You cut a perfect form, Someone forever warm."  Snow Patrol - "Chocolate" Oh god, I just love Snow Patrol in general! This song just makes me feel all warm and cosy - a combination of the lyrics, music and a great video just totally endear me to Gary Lightbody. If someone was singing this to me, I couldn't fail to forgive them for whatever they had done - so moving.  James Taylor - "Fire And Rain" This has been one of my favourite songs for years after I heard it on the soundtrack to "Running On Empty". It's such a simple song and full of despair (about his battle with heroin and the suicide of a close friend) but seems to be uplifting and optimistic at the same time, despite the lyrics suggesting otherwise.  This is getting a bit long now, so I'll just list the rest.  David Gray - "This Year's Love" Greenday - "Good Riddance" Madonna - "Substitute For Love" Massive Attack - "Teardrops" Paul Weller - "You Do Something To Me" Stone Roses - "She Bangs The Drums" U2 - "One"  And so many others that I can't think of right now.
