Don't know of anywhere specific, but I would have thought that most places would be able to find something to suit. Occasionally, my uncle, who eats gluten free, joins us and we just ask the waiter to point things out, and he usually asks the chef. We've done this at Bar 23 in town.

Las Iguanas in West One indicate gluten free options on their menus - and so does somewhere else that I have looked at recently (but can't remember just now). If my memory starts working again I'll let you know.

You can only minimise the risk, not eliminate it.

The obvious thing it to avoid bread and wheat products, but even things like ketchup might contain gluten.

And according to the following, which I found on the net, there are other ways of being "contaminated" with gluten even if you don't eat it...

In some instances what is known as cross contamination can occur without the person even being aware that they are ingesting gluten. Known examples occur when people share silverware or other eating instruments. There have also been confirmed reports of cross contamination through oral sex. Doctors have warned that this is possible for as many as 30 days after a person ingests gluten containing products. People known to be allergic to gluten often cite this as an area of "extreme frustration".

:o

This was news to me. As a result of these findings, I will give up sharing silverware (only) !:)

What's Glueten when its at home ?

It's the thing that makes dough sticky. A type of protein derived from wheat.

People who are gluten intolerant may develop a bloating sensation and parrp a lot after ingesting (eating) things with gluten in it.

This is not so much dangerous as downright anti-social. :suspect: (is that you?)

It has also been linked to all kinds of other things - you know, the usual list of side-effects that you can find on any medication...

headache

drowziness

dizziness

fatigue

lethargy

all the usual "catch-all" list of things. But even including some more serious things like

autism

ADHD (hyperactivity)

schizophrenia

muscular problems

How strong the evidence is for any of this stuff I really don't know. It is something that we have only heard of in recent years (relatively).

Personally I think it's linked to Munchausen's syndrome. (Don't ask me what that is - you'll have to look it up!).;)
