Midnight marks the beginning and ending of each day in civil time throughout the world. It is the dividing point between one day and another. To me if someone said midnight on Saturday I would assume they meant when Saturday becomes Sunday and not when Friday becomes Saturday.  To avoid confusion, the M1 is shut from 11.59pm on Saturday evening until some, as yet unspecified, time on Sunday.
