robS35   10 #721 Posted August 26, 2008 grow up there were a landmark and history  Grow up, im not the one going around acting as though a loved one has just died.  Landmark maybe, or just a blot on the skyline, but not quite up there with say the Arc de Triomphe or Christ the Redeemer.  Yeah part of Sheffield history, but just like the derelict steelworks that where replaced by Meadowhall Shopping Centre, times change and we have to move on. SaxonLeigh   11 #727 Posted August 26, 2008 i went to watch, myself, brother, cousin & my bro's mate watched from M&S carpark. we arrived at 10pm & the carpark already had quite a few people in then. alittle after 10pm i saw a bright orange E ON car pull up just infront of us. when the drivers door opened me & my bro both boo'd. they guy came over & we had a chat, he told us he was from manchester & even tho he worked for E ON he was unhappy to see them go. he passed the cooling towers most days traveling. we all went in to meadowhall to get a drink & by the time we came out he had gone, probally scared of been stoned or something.  i cant believe how many people turned up to watch the towers go. there was a real carnival atmosphere on the car park & i think just before the towers were due to be blown up people couldnt actually believe that it was really going to happen. it was just so sureal, like time was in slow motion & it wanst really happening. it was heart breaking to watch tho. it took quite a while to get out of the car parks but everyone was quite curtious. we got out quicker than expected as we were told that the roads would be closed untill 4am.  we didnt see any fighting or anything, everyone was very plesent to one another tho as we were leaving we were told that there was fighiting in the oasis. i too want to say thankyou to meadowhall who keept not only the car parks open but the toilets too. to those people who were chucking empty glass bottles from the uper level in the centre, shame on you. Ousetunes   10 #730 Posted August 26, 2008 Isn't this all a little bit silly?  Tears shed and folk up in the dead of the night to witness two eyesores razed to the ground 30 years late?  It's no wonder southerners still think we're all cobbled streets, flat caps and whippets, is it?! annb3811   10 #732 Posted August 26, 2008 i was at home wanting to watch the demolition on the itv local site.but like many others did not get to see it as it wasn,t working.i was a little upset and emailed them that morning.just got this reply, guess it will be a standard one sent out to all 45 of us that emailed in complaining but at least i got a reply.anyone else got this same one     Many thanks for your comments following our attempt to stream the demolition of Tinsley Towers live on Sunday morning.  I think it is reasonable to say that we disappointed a lot of people that night and judging by the comments some were extremely angry at the absence of live pictures for which we are extremely sorry.  In all we had around 45 messages of complaint.  I want to say that we are taking this feedback very seriously and will be improving the way we safeguard projects like these. ITV Local is a young and experimental service, the first of its kind in the UK, focussing of high quality local video news for the internet. We are in a period of rapid development and while I accept that this should have been achievable there were technical issues we didn't foresee that let us down at the last minute.  We did however post the recorded images here http://www.itvlocal.com/yorkshire/news/?void=226856  Again, many thanks for your comments and I promise we are taking steps to make sure we get it right in future.  Best Wishes,  Mark Waddington, Channel Manager ITV Local Yorkshire
 Share this content via...
