The Tinsley Towers demolition morning megathread

Recommended Posts

If meadowhall are opening there car parks for spectators, how are we supposed to get there if the roads are closed?
Depends where you're coming from. If its from sheffield then just go the way you'd normally go. Its only the roads in the immediate vicinity that will be closed. Brightside Lane and Attercliffe common aren't closing.

They took the Rotherham cooling towers down block by block using a buckets and pulley system about 40 years ago. All down safely with no chance of a catastrophe like is very possible with the Tinsley towers. The nearest tower to the viaduct is a mere 9 metres away and I can't see how it's not going to do damage to the foundations even if they do fall as they want. Anyway they're the experts, I don't want them demolishing and think it's wrong.

Here's 2 pictures of the old Rotherham towers and 3 of the viaduct, (2 of them while under construction)

I notice in these pictures that the towers dont have the holes in the top. 1 has diamond shaped holes and the other, 2 tiers of rectangular 'slots'

Anybody know why or when these were added or are we looking at 2 different towers?

Why can't they build a new Spearmint Rhino on the site?

I wanted to be there to film it even though I am in the wanted to save them group, but not at 3.00am that is a ridiculous time to demolish them. It'll be in complete darkness so how will people see it?, unless they're floodlighting the area even so it's another completely stupid decision by E.ON.

Once they're gone THAT'S IT, I hope all the morons who want them down will be happy looking at nothing when they drive past in the future.

like earlier today, I write in total aggreement with you Billy....

Hope the "Haters" as the americans may say, are happy when the towers are down! Staring at the void where they stood and waiting to see another sentimental piece of our rapidly fading history dissapear!

Im Saddened, like many others..

I can't understand why they're pulling them down! This is ridiculous. Why is there no protest?

In your OPINION they are an 'Eye sore', just like in my opinion, they're a landmark.
