Most awe-inspiring historical site?

Recommended Posts

Got to add Spinalonga in Crete. Always reminds me of Papillon for some reason.

Really have to agree with you there, makes me very emotional.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, and not that historical, but the site of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam is a deeply affecting place to visit. I will never forget my visit there.

Mont St Michael and Rocamadour get my vote - along with the Hallamshire on Commonside.

The Pantheon, Rome.

No major work required in almost 2000 years and the space is truly magical, on seeing it you're not sure if what you're looking at is real.

Of all the historical sites/monuments you've visited, which has inspired the most awe and emotion in you?

I saw the ex wife the other day, I was in awe at how old and ugly she looked. I cried with laughter on the way home.

Scene of the Nuremberg trials

The Palace of Justice, Nürnberg The building stills stands, its just the equivalent of a Crown court in the UK really. Nuremburg is a dull, medium sized German city with two mediocre second division football teams.
