e912 Â Â 10 #1 Posted June 23, 2008 Please can someone help, I have been asked by a mate to see if there is anything i can do to an old dell pc to make it a little bit quicker, he hasnt got a manual or a spec sheet. Â I have found out the following. Â Optiplex G150 Â PSU 200w onboard graphics (8225 ?) P3 933mhz processor 256mb sdram 20gb hard drive. Â Avoiding the jokes about throwing it off a cliff to see it go any faster, anyone got any constrcutive comments please. Â It has got a slot in the AGP type area on the motherboard, but it is one single slot and isnt seperated like the last few PC's I have built are. Â The motherboard hasnt got anything printed on it, and the size is different to standard sizes, screwholes dont match. Â I have got a box of old bits that i could put in it but dont know if the bios will handle a standalone graphics card or 1gb of memory. Â any help appreciated, thanks
 Share this content via...

adaline   10 #5 Posted June 23, 2008 You could upgrade the cpu if you have a P3 faster (dont think you can buy them anymore) assuming the cooling is adequate. 133Mhz bus speed. Adding more ram will help, it says it will take 512 maximum and its DDR SDRAM. You can add an agp 4x card in if it fits, the onboard is Intel 815E. Finally you can overclock it abit, maybe beef up the cooling before you do it.
 Share this content via...

Lurch   10 #8 Posted June 23, 2008 I wouldn't bother with any of that, just reinstall the OS and don't fill it with crap.  Any money would be better off spent putting in a 'new PC' kitty.
 Share this content via...
