Titanic99 Â Â 10 #5 Posted June 21, 2008 Whilst totally disagreeing with this decision, I do feel that it was inevitable this would happen. Since this government came in another 16,000 Police Officers have been employed, this has contributed to a significant reduction in crime levels which the Police have quite rightly claimed some of the credit for. Â Unfortunately in the real world of economising, someone has concluded that because they've now got less work to do, then we need fewer of them. I don't agree with it, but I saw it coming as did Ronnie Flanaghan when he voiced the same opinion months ago. Â I'd rather they kept them on and helped crime reduce even further. chem1st   10 #6 Posted June 21, 2008 Get rid of another 500 while there at it. Do this in order to provide better law enforcement. Eh???? With the money saved, employ 500 builders. Build a prison capable of holding 10 000 people in Sheffield, we need one. Equip all rooms with treadmills linked to generators. Once done, re employ police officers, at a time when it physically possible to punish offenders.
 Share this content via...
Heyesey   11 #7 Posted June 21, 2008 What a crock! we need 149 MORE, not 149 fewer ... what are they thinking!!  Apparently it's due to budget constraints, there's simply no money to pay for these officers. So, their duties will now be taken up by other officers working overtime at time-and-a-half, and the overall budget will go up.      No, don't ask me. It's :loopy:to me as well. Eric_Collins   11 #8 Posted June 21, 2008 The streets are becoming more unsafe people gettin murdered, shootings, stabbings, robbery's god know's what else. When will the government wake up and smell the coffee The Government lives in a bubble surrounded by Police at every turn. Until something happens up close and personal to them then the world will get worst. It's a case of "It's alright for me Jack", they live in the white towers of crime free, immigrant free, hoodie free and plenty of Cash state. Untill that changes then life for us mere mortals that voted this sad sorry lot in will never change.
 Share this content via...
milo24/7   10 #9 Posted June 21, 2008 shame on this goverment shame on modern day society shame on modern police command teams  for destroying the modern police service and all that has been suffered in the past to make it what was, the envy of the world...  despite all the faults routinely trawled out by people on here, anyone that has spent time overseas will tell you how superior the UK Police are.  One of the best things was always that the man at the very top, started at the bottom with everyone else. That any specialist had spent their time on the streets earning their spots and that any officer arriving to help you would have the tools and the knowledge to do so.  And what do we have now..? Extreme fast track promotions Civilian workers doing police jobs (and even supervising cops..!! ?? ) PCSO's providing a 2 tiered Police service (at best)  I despair at what has happened to the service that my father held so dear, and was so proud for me to join. I'm now ashamed to tell people im part of an organisation that gets so much wrong, so often, for so many people.  We do do good work, every day. But that is in spite of the organisation, not because of it. Its only ever down to the tenacity of individual officers and hard graft on their part.  After 20 years I wish i had a stab at another career. I dont complain about pay. I get paid a fair wage for fair graft. But I never thought I would see the day when we REDUCED police numbers in light of expanding population and immigration. This has been the final straw for me. Im now looking for opportunities in the southern hemisphere and the chance to leave this madness behind.. I wish you all luck with what is to come, you'll need it..!! Swan_Vesta   11 #10 Posted June 21, 2008 Apparently it's due to budget constraints, there's simply no money to pay for these officers.  And also factor in the £250,000 overspend from the forces fuel budget. Why such a drastic oversight in the figures you may ask? Because the bloody Govt. have hiked the fuel prices up screwing the police out of much needed funds!  None of this make any sense at all! It's :loopy:to me as well.  Your'e correct regarding 'budget constraints'. SYP is having 10% cut in its' funding over the next three years - I believe this equates to around £18m.  However, have you made the bit up about other Officers working overtime to cover? Because the FACT is that internal overtime budgets have been slashed as well. It is common practice now (and will become the norm) for Officers to 'handover' jobs they cannot complete in their tour of duty, onto to their colleagues on subsequent shifts to continue -meaning NO overtime is accrued.
