babychickens   10 #26 Posted September 28, 2006 i have just moved to sheffield and i have a little boy turns 3 in october and a 6 month old baby girl, wondering if there are any mommy and baby groups in chapletown  sorry, i'm not from chapeltown, but if you do internet searches for groups, you'll probably get more hits with mummy and baby groups rather than mommy and baby. aside from that, when you register with a gp you could ask them to give you the number of the health visitor (i guess you'll be assigned one anyway, as you have a 6 month old baby) - they should be able to point you in the right direction for your area. Zebra   10 #27 Posted September 28, 2006 We're opening one in Sheffield City Centre in a few weeks, a 3 day a week drop in centre so people can have a coffee and adult chat while their kids play in safety and a nice social environment. It also means you can go and shop in town but break it up for the kids with a play and coffee or end with it. Also planning to do crafts and so on, plus refreshments for the little ones and eventually bring and buy sales etc.
 Share this content via...
canuck   10 #28 Posted September 29, 2006 Hi, we just moved here too and I've found these sites most helpful. The first one, especially, lets you search for groups in your area!  http://www.childcarelink.gov.uk/whitebox/cis.asp?cisid=5124&mapid=453  http://www.sheffieldchildrenfirst.org.uk/  http://www.chatterboxsheffield.org.uk/toddler_groups.html
 Share this content via...

Zebra   10 #33 Posted September 29, 2006 No, I should have mentioned it will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We won't be registered to care for other people's children, just to have the children and parents there. However, as time goes on, I daresay that friends will drop by and leave their kids with me as a personal arrangement which is legal. I would imagine a lot of friendships will be forged as a result of Jellytots.
 Share this content via...
surfinjim   10 #34 Posted September 30, 2006 i have just moved to sheffield and i have a little boy turns 3 in october and a 6 month old baby girl, wondering if there are any mommy and baby groups in chapletown  Your best bet is to try the library in Chapeltown for info.  I do know that there is a PARENT and toddler group (I'm a dad you see) which runs out of Newton Hall in the middle of Chapeltown. We used to go on a Thursday morning but I think it is on on 3/4 mornings per week.  Cheers Jim:thumbsup:
 Share this content via...
Zebra   10 #35 Posted October 19, 2006 Another new group(Jellytots) in the city centre will open on 30th October 2006 at the Victoria Methodist Mission on Chapel Walk (though no religious affiliation is required) on the lower ground floor every Mon, Wednesday and Friday between 1pm and 3pm. It's a parent/carer and child drop in centre, though we'll welcome pregnant women and women with older children who are at school or nursery. It's all about freedom as a aprent, socialising for you and your child and an easy central space to get support, shop and stop and relax etc etc.
 Share this content via...
Andromeda333   10 #36 Posted October 20, 2006 Hey, My family and I moved all the way from Singapore last September. We have a 21 month old who is in desperate need of company to play with. I go to a toddler group but I think she needs to make some 'real' friends. I am actually still feeling my way around.  Do send me an e-mail if you have the same situation or a child/children we can be friends with!  Lonelymum  Hi there, I have a 5 month old and a 5 year old (she loves babies) and I will be moving to Sheffield soon from London. I dont know anybody up there and have never been there before (i think we passed Sheffield on the way to Lake District) thats all. I will be moving to the Hillsborough area (hopefully!). So we could possible meet up with kids. I used to work with a Singapore based company so still have friends in Singapore ;-)
 Share this content via...
