posthere   10 #25 Posted June 10, 2008 Several times I've been to one particular garage, carefully put in exactly a tenner (I always check the amount when i put the nozzle back in its rest), and gone to the till to find it's £10.01.  I know it's only a penny but I'm sure they are somehow fiddling it.  Last time it happened I said I had no more money so they let me off.  This used to happen to me alot!! Exactly the same thing, put £10 in and when you get inside the shop it's gone up to £10.01. Last month I started to get my own back buy putting in 1p less. eg, if I have £20 to put in I will put £19.99 in and when it comes to paying I wait until I receive my 1p change. I get funny looks but im sick of getting ripped off.
 Share this content via...

STT-Jag   10 #31 Posted June 10, 2008 Petrol prices are unbelievable wherever in the country you go, to be honest. I'm really glad I don't own a car. I was talking to some friends in America the other night, and they were saying how awful it was that 'gas is now over $4/gallon'. That's only 44p/litre converted to our measurements. They were aghast when I told them in the UK it's equivalent to over $10/gallon.  you may not own a car but you depend on the transport system and the cost of fuel as this governs the price of most things, including but not an exhaustive list;  1, food (how does it get to the supermarket) 2, buses (last time i looked they were dependant on oil as well) 3, taxis (again oil derived products) 4, the fishing industry, 5, your cycle tyres, didnt magically apear in the store  if the cost of oil (or tax on said product) goes up then this is passed on down the line, either way we all lose out whether we use a car or not.
