sheff_girl   10 #1 Posted June 1, 2008 Does anyone know where I report people parking across the footpaths. A few people on my road seem to think it's okay to park on their driveway, but overhanging over the footpath so much, that it's impossible to walk on the path, instead having to go around the back of the cars, which with a small child isn't the safest thing to do. I presume it's illegal? Where do I report it? Thanks.
 Share this content via...

Buble Fan   10 #5 Posted June 1, 2008 If the road adjacent to the pavement has single or double yellow lines, contact Parking Services at the Council on 0114 273 6255 or e-mail [email protected]  If there are no yellow lines then the police can take action for obstruction - so ring the police. Heyesey   11 #6 Posted June 1, 2008 If there are no yellow lines then the police can take action for obstruction - so ring the police.  I'm given to understand that, even if there are yellow lines, if they're parked on the pavement or their own driveway, and not actually on the road, it's still a police matter and not a parking-warden job.  Since a footpath is involved, I'm pretty certain it's the police for obstruction; in any event, if you ring the council they'll tell you to whom you must speak. adysheff   10 #7 Posted June 1, 2008 Calling 101 is your best bet - police can take action if the pavement is that blocked that people have to go on the road to pass - yellow lines or not...
 Share this content via...
MCFC Â Â 10 #8 Posted June 1, 2008 Maybe the best thing to do would be to talk to your neighbours before reporting them! Just an idea.
 Share this content via...

Thanks.  sheff_girl, yes its illegal to park a vehicle on a public footpath, the police have the idea that nuisance parking is no longer in their domain but if the parked cars are a safety hazzard, possibly by making pedestrians walk onto a busy road then i'm sure they would have to act especially if you made an official complaint, other than that i think the councils highways department would be the next best place to try, best of luck. I assume you mean from a BT landline and not any phone.
 Share this content via...
Daven   10 #12 Posted June 1, 2008 Maybe the best thing to do would be to talk to your neighbours before reporting them! Just an idea.  This is the most sensible route - your neighbours probably don't realise they are causing you a problem.
 Share this content via...
