Its nothing to do with flash player

If I close down SF and go to Sky News or Yahoo (which have lots of flash the processor usage is minimal.

It appears particular conditions are causing high processor usage. At present I am not able to determine what it is.

it's more likely to be background tasks running on your pc

open task-manager, go to the processes tab, then click the header of the cpu column to order the processes by cpu usage... you'll be able to see which process is causing the 'spikes'

Processor activity is high when viewing the list of threads within any particular forum.

Entering this message the acitivity is less than 3%

I can imagine a computer with a slow processor and minimal memory would appear to have a slow response on SF.

you say 'when viewing'... you do mean when the page is rendered, not the whole time you're on the page, right?

what percentage is cpu usage when this happens?

When viewing the list of topics within any particular forum (sorry not threads) AND moving the mouse over the topics (as you do) . If I stop moving the mouse, after a few seconds processor activity drops to to less than 3%.

It just seems strange that I haven't observed this behaviour on other websites.

I would say it's a problem with your machine/browser. It's the same as any other vBulletin forum as far as I'm aware?
