I agree totally the presenters need a total overall.....

It's supposed to be a local radio station there's alot more they could be reporting...

Certain presenters love to talk about themselves I was always taught that "anyone who does their own promoting are not worth listening to"

I stopped tuning into this station a while ago but I tried it again to see if it had improved but it hasn't....

Nevermind back to Radio 4....

I don't think the station is so bad & is very informative on local issues as well as good for local travel. The sports coverage is very good & I admit some of the presenters are run of the mill but they have to contend with cutbacks etc so your not going to get the Ken Bruce, Chris Evans standards on local stations plus you always have the added bonus of the buttons on the radio to either re-tune or just turn off.

Doesn`t sounds like anyone has listened to any of the newer additions - much improved imho. Do folk only listen in from 7-5?

I like the Clarke Carlisle show, the new sports one focussing on Summer stuff is good, Eastern Air is strong, and the Friday night show seems a lot better for young ones. And the Sauce Show too, great for urban music.

The Toby Foster show has improved masssively now Kat Harbourne is on there - she's excellent.

The lass presenting this week - Kat Cowan - seems a nice lass but struggles for me.

Positivity! yay! I like both Kats and I can understand that Toby Foster is a `marmite` presenter. (I like marmite fwiw!).

But most days they don't seem to know what they are talking about.😊

I occasionally listen to Radio Sheffield.  I think their coverage of local sport, particularly football, is excellent.  That's the main reason I listen to it.  I like Andy Giddings and think he does a great job of holding that show together - especially considering all the changes he's had to put up with over recent years with the loss of some very good sports presenters.

Sometimes I catch a bit of Toby Foster in the mornings.  Now, I realise Toby has been granted celebrity status on Radio Sheffield and that the station is all about him.  They've even got jingles that interfere with other programmes, reminding us that Radio Sheffield is "the home of Toby Foster", which I find quite bizarre actually, considering he is just one of many presenters that work there.  I think when he does some of his more serious stuff he's very good.  I like the fact he gets into the ribs of local politicians and gives it them straight.  I'm not terribly amused by his sense of humour though - I know many are.  I just find it a bit...I don't know...basic/childish?  I think he also overplays this "Northern Socialist man" bit, but I suppose that's part of his appeal to most folks around here.

There are far worse than him though.  That guy Howard Pressman must be the DJ that "Alan Partridge" modelled himself on - surely?  I just find him incredibly banal and totally unfunny.  And Rony Robinson...my God...what a lecherous old so and so he sounds like, with his constant innuendo, filthy laugh and smoky voice.  Speaking of "smoky voices" - I can't say I miss the '40 Woodbines a day' voice of Georgey Spanswick either.

Then we have Pauline Edwards - who prides herself on pretending she's local and thick.  She carries it off very well I must say.  And as for Kat Cowans - she  always sounds like someone or something is offending her, permanently "narked" for some reason.   I was so fascinated by her "narky" personality,  that I just had to see what she looked like, because I fully expected her to have a permanent scowl.  Quite the opposite actually - she's rather happy looking and attractive too.  How deceiving radio can be!

Oh yes and then there's Gerry Kersey - a presenter you must listen to before you die - just before you die ideally.

Credit though to Phil Butler, who plays some great music on his show and has a nice manner about him.

They must be doing something right though.  The fact I only listen "occasionally" yet have registered all these presenters for reasons good or bad, they've obviously made some impression on me.
