Audacity and vista??

just got a new pc with windows vista on it. downloaded audacity but when i try and use it i get the following message

 

error while opening sound device.please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.

 

I haven't a clue wot to do as i'm not the most pc literate guy?

 

any one give me step by step instructions??

have you got the latest sound drivers for your pc.

 

Vista can be slow to update drivers sometimes

er dunno..? told you i was pc thick LOL.. vista came preloaded, and i just went to a sit on line and downlaoded audacity

would also see which version you downladed 1.2.6 looks like the one to use as 1.3 looks like it still being worked on,

I have release 1.2.6 working fine with Vista. Didnt need to update anything.

I think it's a case of just going into Edit> Preferences> Click the Audio I/O tab and select the input and output sound devices. If no sound devices are there then it's a driver issue. For the sample rate try the next tab and set the rates to 44KHZ. Hope that helps.
