Dilbert Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Can anybody recommend a decent set of Electric Guitar strings,i am using Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9-42's at the moment but find they rust quickly and lose the brightness and tone can anybody recommend a good alternative to ernie balls?
Chris_Sleeps Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I always found Ernie Ball strings used to snap on me all the time. I use D'Adarrio for all my instruments (electric guitar, banjo and classical) and Martin strings on my acoustics. I buy them in bulk from String Busters.
not wanted Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I use Ernie Ball strings, either 9's or 10's depending on the guitar.
Angus Prune Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Fender Super Bullets. Not the easiest of strings to come by (I usually order them on t'internet) but keep their tone and brightness for absolutely yonks and stay in tune even with heavy bending. Perfect for that classic Strat sound, ideal for Gilmour impersonators (although I'm fairly sure he uses GHS strings these days).
Fantomas Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 D'Adarrio XL's 10-46 gauge all the way for me, been using them for years. 9-42's are just too floppy and lack tone. Can't remember the last time I broke a string, it must be about 8 years, though I don't use a trem at all. To help prevent rust make sure you thoroughly clean the strings after you've had a session, especially if you're a sweaty bloke like me!
RedRocker Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 You use the best strings with Erine's!!! I reccomed getting some fastfret to clean your strings and prolong the life of them. How often do you change your strings??
samesame monkey Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 D'Addario XL (10s I think) on the 'leccy D'Addario 11s on the acoustic Rotosound 35s on the bass
guitar_bob Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Dean Markley Blue steels, or D'Addarios if I can't find any. Really can't stand Ernie's, but each to their own.......
SaveUK Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Elixir on me acoustic.... and any old hash for my electric
deedar Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I've used them all in 30 odd years as a professional guitar player but D'Addario EXL 110 are the best strings for me. Great, long lasting tone and brightness and I rarely break 'em. Buy them on Ebay from America, 10 packs for around £30, free P&P.
