Do You Use Redex Or Fuel Additives ??

Recommended Posts

I use it redex occasionally just to keep the injectors clean just by adding to the fuel.

From what I have heard just using a tank full of super has a reasonably similar effect as most of these have the addatives already um added.....

I used to use redex every now and again to help keep my bikes carbs clean, always seemed to be a loosing battle so not sure how much good it did. Seemed to run a bit smoother after, chucked a lot of extra rubbish out the exhaust which i guess is a sign it's doing something, but might have been a bit of a placebo.

there was a survey done 6 month or so ago by 5th gear other channel alternative of top gear.

it said that out of the top 5 fuel additives 3 actually reduce the performance the other 2 do nothing except work as placebos (you think that they are working so they are).

Talking of fuel additives, a friend of mine in Canada has been using acetone for a couple of years : some info here -

Never tried it personally, but he swears by it....but he uses only 100% purity.

When I last looked, I think you could buy a 5 litre can for about a tenner in the UK if you fancy giving it a whirl.

This sounds good :D, wonder where we can buy it from

That was to boost performance the theme of this thread seems to be about keeping the inside of the engine clean.

I was wondering what the general view is of Redex / full additives?

I have noticed that when I put a bottle of redex in the fuel tank it does make the car more responsive on the gas peddle:D

didnt see anyhting about keeping engine clean in original post but perhaps i read it wrong sorry

Just a gimmick, they do the same as adding super unleaded to a car and I beleive redex only works on carb'd vehicles (motorcycles and older cars generally) it just has a higher octane level and burns hotter which clears the crap out of you system but you can use anything for it not just this premium rate coloured crap.

A lot of placebo, I think. The rubbish in the exhaust is burnt Redex!

I checked on eBay a few months ago....plenty there, right up to 5 litre drums, but "only" 99.5% pure as opposed to the full monty available in Canada.

Whether it makes any difference.....?
