lilqueenie   10 #1 Posted April 6, 2008 Ok - does anyone know why my daffodils have not come into flower this year? They have shot up the usual green leaves, looking healthy enough, but no flower buds, or any sign of them. Nothing looks nibbled, I've not disturbed the ground and I let them die back last year.  Anyone got any ideas?
 Share this content via...
torin8 Â Â 10 #2 Posted April 6, 2008 Is the soil poor and did they get lots of water? Â If they don't indeed flower then in a month give them a good feed with some fertiliser and it should do them good for next year.
 Share this content via...
torin8 Â Â 10 #3 Posted April 13, 2008 Tomato feed is apparently good!
 Share this content via...
lilqueenie   10 #4 Posted April 13, 2008 Soil is not particularly bad - they just come through at the side of the lawn - and I never fertalise they are - maybe I will do this autumn.  My tulips in the same area have come up no probs!  There is no accounting for nature is there! torin8 Â Â 10 #5 Posted April 13, 2008 Fertilise in May - that is when they are building their energy reserves for next year. Otherwise go grab a cheap bag of daffs in Winter and replenish your stocks.
 Share this content via...
S6potatohead   10 #6 Posted April 14, 2008 Usual reasons are lack of water in the summer, or mowing the leaves off too early, I believe.
 Share this content via...
daylily   10 #7 Posted April 15, 2008 There is a surprisinly long list of reasons for daffs not flowering. One can be a larvae of some fly that specialises in them, you dig up one and check for tunnelling, other can be bulbs not deep enough or too exposed sunny position. Amongst a lot of others.
