Should people need a licence to have children?

It is ridiculous to suggest that 'fast breeders' with no other source of income should be allowed to take my hard earned money from my family to feed and clothe theirs!

The main issue for me is how they fund their reproduction! To say that society should pay for them to breed is as ridiculous as saying that society should upgrade their stolen car to a Bugatti Veyron for free! Anyway, a bad parent is one who breeds without the means to support their family by themselves!

I disagree strongly. Get in a car and drive through a couple of sprawling Chav estates, or look at the national exam statistics! :hihi:

Society may have that right, however!

Like I said, I don't disagree that families should be given money for having children by the government (via ourselves) but this should be addressed another way (I, personally don't know which way, maybe put them all in high rise flats or hostels and not give them actual money, just vouchers to obtain what they need).

The point I don't agree with is telling another human being whether they are "allowed" to reproduce or not. Where would this end? Next you would have overweight people being only allowed one chocolate bar etc from the shop as their being overweightedness causes a strain on the NHS.

Maybe in a perfect world when all burglars have had their hands chopped off and peadophiles been castrated and murderers have been hung THEN we could look at whether women should be "allowed" to have a child.

BTW what is a "chav estate", don't you think you are generalising just a little?

Am I right in thinking that under-age sex is against the law? If that's so, what's the most effective way of preventing unwanted pregnancies given that most teenagers seem to be gagging for it most of the time!?:gag:

education and effective contraception that they have consented to ideally and understand why they are having it.

Also it comes down to aspirations....and wanting to do something with their lives, seeing that there is a world out there other than having kids at 15/16

There parents (in alot of instances) were young when they had them and the cycle continues...

Also they think it makes relationships better and its someone to love them unconditionally, something alot have never experienced.

Kids dont know the first thing about sex ed. I know cos i teach it.

They dont know what sti's are and what condoms do or dont and the realities of sex and its concequences.

I would agree, but not all. I learnt the "Facts of Life" from around the age of ten. I knew that if I engaged in sexual intercourse that It was possible to get pregnant.

But yeah, most don't and some even know and still don't care.

you only have to watch Jeremy Kyle for a week to see the massive problem

That stupid "made for an audience" program wants bloody sterilising. :hihi:

I wonder how many kids see the participants on the program as "role models"? :suspect:

So, i repeat tell which bit is codswollop!?!?

You can't teach someone how to be a parent!!!

Now if you had said "better education on consequences etc" then I could have half agreed with you but to say that someone should have a GCSE in parenting is very impractical.

As I say the only way to learn to be a parent, good or bad one is by your own experience, I consider myself to be a damn good parent (got 8 GCSE's, none in parenting though) and I had my eldest at 18 (doesn't seem so young these days but was when I had him). I still don't profess to be the BEST parent as I probably still have a hell of a lot to learn.

My point is, who would have taught me how to be a parent? Would I have passed the test or got my license? Would I have my kids now if someone had to decide if I was "allowed" to have them or not? What if the examiner was in a bad mood that day?

I think you have a valid point there - we have a lot of young kids that just do not care about anything. I am just glad I do not have their attitude to life.

again i agree with you however unfortunately this proportion of society is becoming larger and larger and hence why we have a big problem in today's society.

My views on this are a little, ah, reactionary, to say the least. Basically anyone found guilty of a criminal offence would be sterilized; anyone claiming benefits (without just cause) for a period of, say, a year, would be sterilized; anyone else wishing to be sterilized would be incentivised to follow this course.

And yes, I would be quite happy to be sterilized myself.

If you want a good reason here's one.

*ducks*
