Nice area to rent in Sheffield near the M1?

I've decided that I could do with moving out towards the M1 for ease of access to the motorways, it's not much fun trying to get out of the city from S11 in the mornings. I did initially look at some of the places just off Sheffield Parkway like Darnall or Catcliffe, but according to Upmystreet.com the crime rates are quite high there.

Can anyone recommend a decent area that's not too far away from the city centre (say 10 miles) and still comes under Sheffield City Council, but from where you can reach the M1 fairly easily in the mornings? I'd be looking to pay £500 a month for a 1 or 2 bed - £600 at a push. I've found a couple in Swallownest (S26), but not sure what it's like round there?

I suppose it would depend which way you want to go on the M1. I know people who live in Halfway and Crystal Peaks type areas who say getting to the South bound M! is quite good from their.

I live in Middlewood and if you are quite early its ok to get to the M1 north from there.

Should've thought to mention that really! I'd be travelling north.

Thanks, I'll check out Middlewood.

Actually, on that note you could look towards Grenoside, Oughtibridge, Stocksbridge etc, but can't comment what they are like to live in! But they do have the Supertram link now and are closer to the M1

Or in fact Chapel town too!

From Chapeltown it's easy to access the M1 - did it for a while going to leeds (and was 30 mins door to door where I lived).. Rents should probably fall into that bracket I would guess ( a 3 bed terrace on my street was up for rent at 500/month)..

Chapeltown looks nice, I need to get onto the M18 from the M1 and travel up towards Doncaster so it's a few extra miles to drive compared to the places I've been looking at in S26, but the extra distance is all on the motorway anyway.

we live in hillsborough and commute to wakefield and leeds, about 45 and 60 minutes respectively, via A61 and J.36 - hopefully the journey times will get better once the A61 is repaired and those damn traffic lights go! We pay 495 a month for a 3 bed terrace.
