Amanda1 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I'm having my first withdrawal bleed after stopping the pill and I feel terrible. Bloated, achy, sick (but hungry) and can't stop crying and feeling lethargic. The crying thing is just awful and is really getting me down and making me feel ill. Have searched on the net, and these symptons seem pretty common when stopping the pill, but what I don't know is how long they'll last. Will they finish with the end of this period? Will it be like this with every subsequent period? Is it just a temporary thing while my body adjusts to being pill free? I never suffered like this with periods before going on the pill. Any experiences/thoughts welcome. Don't want to go to Docs as like i said these symptons seem pretty common and iI feel it's too soon after coming off pill to seek medical advice.

I didn't have any problems when I stopped and reading your above thread I consider myself really lucky, you poor thing, my heart goes out to you.
Daven Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 It's likely to be a temporary thing as your body gets used to being 'pill free' ! Can I ask why you are coming off the pill? This may be relevant to why you are feeling as you do.
Amanda1 Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Thanks for your response. From reading around, it seems everyone reacts differently and the brand and length of time you were on it for seem to be major factors. I was on the pill for 18 years and am quite worried about the effect this may have on me.
Amanda1 Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Daven, I'm coming off to give my body chance to get back to normal before trying to conceive. I have heard it can take up to 6 months for things to get back to normal.
Daven Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I guess that 18 years is a long time and your body is having to readjust. I am sure you will start to feel better soon - but if this persists, go to see your GP- if only for reassurance. All the best X
Amanda1 Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Thanks, i think I'll see how the next period goes and if it's the same I'll go back to the GP.

I have heard it can take up to 6 months for things to get back to normal. It can take a while. Be sure to use other forms of contraception for a few months before you 'start trying'. Your ovaries will have 'been asleep' for a while and it's important they start working properly again before you try to conceive. All the very best for the future x
sammeh86 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Could try your nurse rather than the GP, i found mine to be very sympathetic about similar issues I had when I had to change pill brands. It made me feel less like I was wasting Gp's time too as it is the sort of thing the nurse is there to deal with.

All the very best for the future x We don't plan to 'try' until the summer really, by then i am hoping things will have settled down and also we'll have had chance to save a bit of cash too. Thanks for your good wishes. And sam, good ideas about the nurse, will bear that in mind!
