bunnykins Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 i watched it last night,it was scary how people where hacking into your pc and accessing data etc. the programme was showing how people had befriended even there own family by taking there identity and buying houses, cars etc, iv just been onto my facebook account and deleted a load of private information etc from there,i suggest people take more care of displaying things on the internet.
W Wilkinson Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Yes I watched this it was scary how they steal your identity.I always burn any letters with personal info on but wouldnt think about wiping your hard drive before throwing out an old computer. Then again Im rubbish at understanding how they work.
nick2 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I always burn any letters with personal info on I think thats a bit OTT
BasilRathbon Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Not only do I shred all my correspondence, I also always use false names online, only make phone calls when the phone isn't plugged into a network and have changed my name by deed poll to " " (a series of blank spaces) so that no-one can steal it. Didn't help much though......
andco Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I dont do online transactions at all. Use pseudonyms on fora and only use my real name in closed groups with a registration process which requires it. I remove my name, address & account details from mailings which will persist in printing this info on their catalogues. Thankfully all my bills are posted in window envelopes. The only problem I therefore have is with their direct advertising mailshots & thankfully that's not so much.
R.A.N.D Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 dont put any personal info on your pc and you cant go wrong:hihi:

not wanted Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 The problem is people freely give out so much personal info on the internet that it makes the job of committing fraud so much easier.
BasilRathbon Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Did the bank reimburse you though????? Eventually, yes. They sent me a list of "suspicious" transactions including some I'd actually made myself! It would have been very easy to claim back more than had been taken from my account, but I'm a good boy these days so I didn't.
