Was it not owned by a Cypriot family by the name of Severis? They used to live up Granville Rd and had a boy called Tassos, went to Hurlfield in the 60s.
Caz1 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Remember it well. Me and friends used to go in after the nightclub. i didn't really like curry then but used to have chicken omlette. Brilliant place.
lazarus Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Was it not owned by a Cypriot family by the name of Severis? They used to live up Granville Rd and had a boy called Tassos, went to Hurlfield in the 60s. No Severis didnt own it and the reason I know is my wife and myself rented a flat off them on Stafford Rd which led to me doing odd jobs forthem and my wife sometimes helped at the Restaurant, I cant recall Mr Gabrialidis first name but his wife was Zina and their Daughter was Donna. They did use the English name Gabriel. As far as Im aware they returned to their home country
extaxman Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I can confirm what Lazarus has said. One of their sons was called George and went to the same school as me (Marlcliffe). He ran Eckington Hall and specialised in their "Elizabethan Banquets".
PhilipB Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Thanks lazarus, I've been wrong for the best part of 50 years !!!

billhaley Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 I can confirm what Lazarus has said. One of their sons was called George and went to the same school as me (Marlcliffe). He ran Eckington Hall and specialised in their "Elizabethan Banquets". I don't know if there was only one son but I am sure George Gabriel was at my school (gregg school) sometime 1955-57 and if i remember correctly the Queens was downstairs?
handypandy Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 From many moons ago, I seem to remember this restaurant being called something like the Gambit. Is this the same place?
