Venables Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Hi, Ive heard that Heeley baths has had a refurb, and might pop down for a dip. Has anyone been down since it re-opened and what did they think? From what I remember a few years back it was ok, but nothing special. Any changes? Thanks.
pete_jim Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I go twice a week for an early swim. The refurb was done when they mended the roof after the lead was nicked. All the cubicles around the edge are new and it's really clean and smart. The staff are friendly and they do some good deals on weekly and monthly tickets. I highly recommend it but slightly question what you are loking for when you say that it was ok but nothing special.
Ousetunes Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 What I like about Heeley Swimming Baths is that it doesn't change, it's still the place to go to for a no-thrills swim. No messing about regarding changing facilities, just jump in a booth bang beside the pool - no need to worry about your clothes and things, you can see your changing booth from the pool. There's also the added benefit of free parking which is something these days. There's also a sauna which is handy (and again, it's beside the pool). The family used to go every Sunday morning around 1978-1980 and I took my own family there yesterday (April 2nd). It's practically the same as it was 30 years ago. Except the vending machine no longer has Texan bars to shatter your teeth on afterwards! Pricewise, it cost our family £8 and there are bonus/loyalty schemes. What else can a family of four do for that price for an hour?
beckelina Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 I have had a look at the prcing system and it does seem good value - however there are references to something called a 'Heeley Card'... what is this, and where can I get one!
Venables Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 Thats excellent, £8 for a family. I was a fan of those coloured rice things from the vender as opposed to the Texan. I`ll have to give it a whirl then, thanks for the replies.
bigbladerob Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 how much is just a swim? no family, just me? does anyone know?
beckelina Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Check here for a downloadable timetable and price list (and source of the elusive 'Heeley Card' reference...) http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/?pgid=18208&fs=s
Venables Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 Popped down last night. Very clean, and staff are friendly. £3.30 a dip.

Shazbat Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Oh, the Texan bar. I can remember back in the day when I was learning to swim at Hoyland Baths. A Texan bar out of the machine and listening to the Space Invaders. Altogether now, duh duh duh duh
