Nutbrown Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Hi, I used to take my car to the same guy that i trust every time anything went wrong on it but recently he has been in hospital. My brakes have been making a horrid sqeeling noise for the last god knows how long. I had it serviced and I was told the brake pads are fine and that it will probably go away... It hasnt and it is now a good few months later. It is really irritating and very loud, not just a quiet squeek. Does anyone know what it could be and how much it is likely to cost, and,... somewhere reliable to take it? ( it's an 02 plate clio expression ) Cheers Steve

greendragon Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 It could be just grit or dirt on the discs/calipers. Take it to Hawleys tyers nd exhausts, they can look at ur breaks for free and tell you whats wrong with it without you fearing that they will just say anything to get your cash!!
Adri Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Were the brake pads changed? That squeal usually means the shims got lobbed away instead of refitted. Meanwhile, The express fit (non Peugeot bit) of Robins & Day - formerly Garrison Motors - on Penistone Rd are good and won't charge you just for having a look.
Squiggs Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 shims and perhaps lack of suitable lubricant on the non-braking surfaces of the pads. A bodge job by the sounds. MOT Centre on Broadfield Road is good, professional and reasonably priced If you're on the north side of sheffield then Atkinsons on Oakland Road (off Holme Lane) is also a decent place
