Hazels Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Can anyone recomend somewhere good to stay for a long weekend. Thanks
Don_Kiddick Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Sandown is the magnet for riff-raff & is a bit scummy. Shanklin is a bit posher. Godshill is fantastic but you will pay through the nose for that! Tourists Beware! Ryde has wonderfull beaches - very pale almost tropical soft sand, and is worth a visit! We tend to 'do' the east-side of the Island mostly so can't comment on the West. A hell of a lot of Roman history their if that's your thing too. Raiders42 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 depends what you intend to do, I like Yarmouth, relatively small, but easy to get to the needles or catch the ferry back to Lymington to explore the New Forest
Hazels Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 Thanks For the info guys... I will look into it. Much appreciated
DynoDon Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Shanklin down the sea front, under the cliff, is great and it's a nice town to stroll around with an olde world part and loads of shops in the other end. Went in Cowes week and there was a massive yearly parade with dozens of floats passing by. It's near enough to most of the attractions as well by car... apart from Blackgang Chine if memory serves which took a while. A long weekend? It'd take the best part of two days to get there and back.
BasilRathbon Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 I quite liked Ventnor. Mind you I haven't been back there since 1975 so it may have changed.
