fez. Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Can someone explain why buses from pinstone street heading for back of atkinsons now have to turn left, round the island to come back to debenhams, when before they simply turned right!
Bladesman Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Yes I would like to know the reasons why they thought that was a good idea.
alicat_26 Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I'd also like to know! At first I thought it was a temporary measure whilst the road works around that area were under way - it looks like its staying as it is - madness!
samstar999 Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 OOh, I am glad someone asked this ... maybe Planner will be along shortly with an explanation? There were some highway councillor people in the pub last night ... I wonder if they decide on things like this after they've had a few bevvies!
bus man Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 It was because when they turned right alarge % of the time they should have been moving they couldnt due to pedestrians still crossing or starting to cross when a bus heading towards them .
Haydn1971 Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Before the change, the junction had three stages - thus three bits of time when all the signals were at red - the change makes the junction a two stage one, i.e. one for peds and one for traffic - thus only two times out of a complete cycle of the signals are all the lights at red... The bus operators weren't keen at first, but realised that they can clear Pinstone Street quicker now and the pedestrians aren't getting mowed down as much, because when the traffic stops, it's safe to cross - simple...
scottf Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I'll not sleep until i know the reason. *passes nick some matchsticks*
