Wadsley Manor House

Anybody got any information about the old Wadsley Manor House on Laird Road. I have a picture from the 1920s, I was wondering when it was demolished or if part of it is still standing. There is an old house at the bottom of Laird Road called Wadsley Lodge, is this connected to the original manor in any way ?

The large house was demolished in the early 80s and new housing was put up. It's a cul-de-sac called Wade Meadow. Wadsley Lodge is still there though.

isnt it also connected to the drive on marlcliffe road - apparently tunnels run from the house to the drive under the gardens

Thanks for the replies very helpful. I've heard this rumour about the tunnel, I read in a local book that the manor was connected to Wadsley House, now a social club on the The Drive off Marlcliffe Road.

I was very interested in your item on Wadsley manor, you see we were the last family to live there. It was demolished around 1958 while I was away doing my national service in the R.A. If you have a picture of the old house taken in the 50s, I would greatly appreciate a copy, paid for in full I may add.

I used to visit the place years ago to see one of the Wintersgill family who were stewards opf a club there.

Yes PopT you do have the wrong place: The Wintersgills were stewards at Wadsley house social club on The Drive, off Marlcliffe Road. Brian currently lives in Barnsley.

Wadsley manor was at the bottomm of Laird Road; where the block of flats now stand.
